A promo model, also known as a brand ambassador or spokesmodel, is a person hired by a talent or staffing agency to drive consumer awareness on a product, service, or brand. 3.Nightclub or Bar Promotors:These models are hired to drive mostly liquor and spirit beverages at various nightclubs and concert venues. Pay is high, but requires that models have a sexy look and must be able to work late nights/early mornings.

4.Street Teams & Guerrilla Style Marketing: Individuals often work as a team in order to drive consumer awareness on a brand, service, or product in high public traffic areas. While selling is never the motive, survey quotas and sign-up expectations are mostly the goal behind street teams.

Promo Model Basics

As a promotional model or brand ambassador, you are labeled an independent contractor so you must turn in a 1099 or W-9 Form in order to work. Keep in mind that you are eligible for certain tax write offs that include photoshoot/photo expenses, lunch meetings, mandatory wardrobe and hair expenses, office supplies, and car maintenance/mileage, parking expenses. Keep all receipts for taxing purposes.

Also, in order to be a successful promo model and brand ambassador, you must be organized and responsible. It is so important to invest in a good agenda book and planner to remember all assignment dates. Keep a working cell phone on you because many agencies will need to contact you at any given time to see if you re available for an assignment. GPS systems and reliable maps are suitable investments as you will be expected to travel a lot. Finally, having a good, positive attitude is essential for getting more call-backs. Always be professional and come to an assignment ready to work. Many agencies pride themselves on their quality staffing, and your good work can get you not only more work, but higher paid positions as team leads and travel managers.
